We asked MA-KON to take on our kitchen project (kitchen/dining room/utility/cloakroom toilet) last year and now having finished the renovation we couldn't be happier with the result - it was a perfect partnership!

MA-KON are unique in that they are headed by a pair of architects (Darren and Adam), so their approach is extremely considered and not your average kitchen renovation/cabinetry. They understand the use of space in relation to the rest of the house, design concepts, importance of natural light, and have a general awareness of respecting the period of the property so your kitchen design won't be incongruent (something that was really important to me). They can also provide additional architectural services if required - for us we needed advice about the utility layout which was an awkward space. When it came to the cabinetry and worktop, everything was made bespoke which was ideal for our equally awkward sized kitchen space that just fell short of standard sized cabinets; the materials used were high quality and the attention to detail in craftsmanship was uncompromising.

We were mostly working with Darren throughout the project. He was patient, kind, open to suggestion but we also felt we could entrust him to deliver what we wanted - he just had that intuition without us having to explain ourselves. I would also say trusting an architect with a bit of their own vision definitely won't disappoint. He really went above and beyond for us and he was always so attentive, making the process itself enjoyable and not just the end product. Importantly, he has a very calm manner which is necessary when you are going through a potentially stressful renovation!

When it came to installing the kitchen, I had never seen such organised, clean and considerate carpentry/installers. Honestly, small details like this made me so happy (!)

Ma-kon made us a beautiful kitchen which we enjoy every day.

When we met Adam and Darren we had a pretty good idea of the general arrangement we wanted, but no sense of the look and feel - all we had to give them was a picture of a boulder covered in lichen.

They asked lots of questions and came back with suggestions to improve the layout, a material palette inspired by the Peak District landscape and beautifully illustrated options for how to apply the palette. It was exactly right for us and our home so it was really easy to make the final decisions, especially because the 3D drawings were so realistic - and once the kitchen was finished it looked exactly like the drawings!

They were great to work with from start to finish and took loads of care to get it right.
