Kon Chau Chinese Restaurant - Miami, Florida

On 10/5, I decided to try Kon Chau (TC was closed which has the BEST DUMPLINGS, etc) but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Upon arrival, I noticed how dirty the floor was, which was quite off-putting, especially given that the restaurant has carpeted flooring (never a great choice). While cleaning a nearby table, one of the staff casually threw a piece of straw wrapper onto the floor, as if to say, “We’ll clean it later.” I found that unsanitary, especially for a restaurant with carpet. Cleanliness should be a priority—keep the floor tidy, particularly when it’s harder to maintain.

The experience didn’t improve with the food. I ordered the pot pie/meat pie, and while they managed to have it in stock, it was served at room temperature. It tasted as if it had been sitting out all day. Serving lukewarm food, especially with meat, is unacceptable. The pastry crust was bland, and the filling was even worse. I couldn’t take more than a bite.

The dumplings were passable but certainly not on the level of Tropical Chinese’s. They were slightly overcooked on top, giving them a dark and hardened appearance, though they weren’t tough. They lacked the visual appeal and finesse you’d expect from properly steamed dumplings.

The only redeeming dish was the Mongolian beef, which was flavorful and well-prepared. Unfortunately, the fried rice was another letdown. It lacked freshness and had a little bit of an overwhelming egg and oil flavor. It was far from the rich, savory fried rice I expected.

In the end, I gave the restaurant three stars solely for the beef. Beyond that, I don’t plan to return or recommend this place to anyone.

Low key, community staple.
The best dim sum in Miami!
Have been going to Kon Chau for almost 20 years. Always happy to visit and walk out satisfied. Same friendly faces. The food is always consistent.

Some of my favorites are;
Assorted mushroom soup
Singapore noodles
Shrimp taro cakes
Shrimp balls
Chive and Shrimp dumplings
Snow Pea tips with extra garlic
Lotus seed paste buns
Steamed egg custards
Shanghai soup dumplings (make sure to ask for red wine vinegar for these)

Don't think I've ever had a bad meal here.
Would highly recommend a visit.

I recently visited this restaurant from out of town based on the positive reviews I'd read, but unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to expectations. While the service was prompt initially, my server did not check on me throughout my meal, despite attending to other regular customers. This lack of attention made me feel overlooked. In addition, select dim sum items were only available until 3:00 p.m. and my wonton soup was subpar. I even had to signal the female manager/owner with eye contact to request the check, which was inconvenient. In addition, an 18% service charge was automatically added to the bill. Given this experience, I won't be returning.

This place needs a sanitary inspection. A group asked to be sat with 3 non-service dogs INSIDE the restaurant when all the tables are relatively close to one another. Felt super skeeved out to be eating with so many dogs at the table next to me and there was food and crumbs all over the floor. Food itself was not terrible and seemed somewhat fresh but I could not get over the fact that they would allow dogs inside like that. The table was petting their dogs and playing with toys as if they were at their own home. Not allowing multiple and large non-service dogs is common decency for the rest of your patrons. Other customers were also giving a side eye. 100% would not come back when there are other cleaner more sanitary Chinese restaurants near by. We couldn’t finish our food and immediately asked for our check so we could leave

Very yummy dim sum. Had a great experience even as a large group (of 12). The ordering process was seamless and food came out quickly. Everything was delicious.

Had an absolutely delightful experience at this restaurant! Their commitment to authentic dim sum truly shines through in every dish. I highly recommend the beef tripe and shrimp rolls - both are must-haves for any visitor.

The place is old and needs remodeling but the food was excellent. They had delicious dim sum made to order with fresh ingredients. They are very busy and some dim sums are not made after 3 PM.
